The Stink after The Storm

Puppy After Storm

After a rainy day, man’s best friend can get a little stinky after their fur gets wet. That’s because their skin has bacteria and yeast that occur naturally. When wet, these microbes can make that harsh stink that can take over the entire house! Thanks to TheNest.com, we can help our pet pals and their owners get rid of the smell and keep their best friends keeping clean! Here is how to get started:

Step 1: Dry your pup by hand.

Using a clean towel, dry your dog from head to paws to soak up as much water as possible.

Step 2: Use a Blow dryer to finish the job.

Towel drying is not going to be enough, but using a heated air dryer can get the last of the remaining moisture while also help remove some of the odor producing bacteria off their fur!

Step 3: Use a scented grooming spray.

Just like using an air freshener, grooming spray helps mask the smell of wet dog. It won’t get rid of the scent completely, but it will keep your nose happy about not having to take in the stink.

Doing all of this will help get rid of the wet dog smell ON YOUR DOG, but what about the smell inside your house. If you come home after a walk in the rain, your pooch is probably going to run into the house and be very excited about coming home. This in turn will leave their lovely odor all over the place. Luckily there are some simple things you can do to remove wet dog smell from your place:

  • Keep your dog clean.

This is pretty obvious, and the easiest way to keep a clean smelling house. Bathe them every other week and dry them off thoroughly to keep them squeaky clean and smelling great.

  • Use an all-purpose cleaner to clean off all hard surfaces in your house.

Find all the areas in your home where your pup likes to lie down or generally hang out. Wet dog smell can build up and over take the area of not cleaned often

  • Steam clean rugs, carpet and furniture.

Smell can easily be trapped inside the materials of your carpet, making it difficult to clean up. Using a steam cleaner can help get deep into the fabrics and remove the stink from the area. Focus heavily on areas where your pup likes to hang around.

It’s a big job to keep our house smelling clean, but it’s a job that must be done. We love our pets, and we will do anything to keep them happy and healthy. So let’s help them out by leaving them with clean fur and a great home.
